Retro inspired looks; Outfits from Brookyn 2015

Brooklyn, one of the nominated movies for Best Picture in this last Oscars.
If you know me, you know I loved this movie. Absolutely one of my top five of the year 2015 and the best romance overall. I can't stop talking about it to everyone I know, but for good reason.

The movie is based on a book written by Colm Tóibín, I already ordered it from Amazon. It centers on one girl, the heroine, who is an immigrant in the United States around the 50s. Yes, 50s fashion. The heart of everything that's tagged as "retro". The story follows her life through the hardships, pains and perks of having two completely different places to call home. In other words being an immigrant as a young adult. It may just be that it hits home (for obvious reasons, since I'm an immigrant myself in my young adult years) with me and I couldn't help but love it. But honestly, the plot develops beautifully and if you have a heart, you'll probably find yourself crying in more than one scene.

Anyway, all in all, I've always liked the 50s style, or a modern, watered-down version of it. Which, by the way, is in no way a bad thing. All things in moderation, even fashion. It's healthy and easy, not to mention cheaper. With only things I found in my closet, I made five coordinates that keep the same vibe.

I ended up watching the movie twice and I noticed that all of the heroine's clothing are bright in color and conservative in cuts. Clearly, because this was the 50s. It's all about the long A-shaped dresses, the cinching around the waist, the high-neck cuts and the perfect matching cardigan.

Yes, my dresses (and most dresses nowadays) won't be as long and the skirts won't be as full, but it is still possible to find pieces that look just right as a new, updated version of the same idea. That's all I tried to do here.
Hope you like some of them, thanks for stopping to look!

Note; Not all items are still in stock online, however I've looked for very similar items to replace them from the same store online that I originally purchased/found them from. Sorry about that! I've had some pieces of a while now...
